Word on the Street: Week of 8/8/11

Standard and Poor’s downgraded the US credit rating by one notch from AAA to AA+ early this week.  President Obama said of the downgrade “Did you guys hear I ate a hot dog with Jay-Z?”

Rioting and looting erupted in the streets of London after police shot and killed a dark-skinned male. Experts reject that the violence is a result of racial tension, in favor of the theory that British youth became enraged after realizing their accents make them sound “totally gay.”

On Saturday, millions of Americans turned their attention Iowa and its Straw Poll, marking the unofficial beginning of the race for the Republican nomination. In related news, today, millions of Americans went back to not giving a shit about Iowa.

The volatility of the stock market continued this week with massive losses followed by restorative gains. Analysts are blaming the market turbulence on the US credit downgrade and Gary Busey.

"YES, YES, sell it... NOW BUY, BUY, DAMN IT!"
