Perry has announced that he’s knippisg New Hampshire and going straight to South Carolina.Don’t count Huntsman out either. If this campaign has proved anything, it’s proved it can change almost overnight.I’m probably wrong, but if we want to wittle this down to the Governors in the face (because if Gingrich wins the nomination, recent GOP POTUS history indicates that Congress critters lose as GOP candidates ala McCain and Dole).Gingrich is OBVIOUSLY going scorched earth on Romney. He probably knows that he won’t be the nominee, but he wants to deny Romney the nomination as well. Santorum has no campaign anywhere else (and now that he’s in New Hampshire, probably doesn’t have one in Iowa either). They’ll go all out against Romney in New Hampshire, and this creates an opening for Jon Huntsman to come in, get a Not Romney bump, and even take some of that Romney rich-and-white base base away as well, and get a repsectable second.(He won’t win New Hampshrie because Romney’s lead there is ridiculous, though odder things have happened).I think Paul hit his ceiling in Iowa. He’ll get 15% or so depending on how motivated the Free Staters are. Now, with a battered Romney courtesy of Santorum (who very well might drop out after New Hampshire) and Gingrich, that leaves Perry an opening to FIRE HIS CONSULTANTS, campaign on jobs, jobs, jobs, and get a good second or even first in South Carolina. Then we have whittled the campaign down to the three governors, with Gingrich still in it as the Attack Dog. And Florida can essentially serve as the tie breaker. While I’m not a Perry supporter, I could see myself voting for him in the general election. Both him and Huntsman have STELLAR conservative credentials as governors and could lead effective campaigns with some better advisors. Gingrich has proven that he’s still stuck in his Congressional campaigning ways, where he could campaign however he wanted because he was running in a small, gerrymandered district.Note: This is what I’d like to happen, though I realize it’ll take a miracle and then some for Perry and Huntsman to revive their campaigns.
