Fwd: Republicans Angrily Denounce Obama’s Claim That The “Weather’s Beautiful”
WASHINGTON – Top Republicans in Washington responded quickly and negatively to President Obama’s recent partisan assertion that, upon walking outside the White House this morning, the weather was “beautiful.”
The President made the remark within earshot of reporters while walking to the Oval Office. The temperature in Washington the past week has been significantly warmer than usual for this time of year, and there has been little rain.
Obama’s dip into meteorology unleashed a strong rebuke within minutes. When Mark Knoller of CBS News tweeted Obama’s comment, dozens of Republican operatives and conservative journalists responded almost instantly, mostly by pointing out all the ways in which the weather was not beautiful.
“There’s a 10% chance of rain, but I guess that doesn’t matter to the elite who can have someone hold their umbrella for them!” remarked conservative pundit Michelle Malkin. “Hey Obama, some of us not in arugula-land have to worry about the unseasonably early tree pollen!” tweeted Tucker Carlson.
The White House responded quickly to the allegations that the President’s claim was premature and lacked a thorough understanding of the weather conditions. “President Obama is indeed concerned about the weather, and feels for those Americans who did not have beautiful weather this morning,” said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney at a hastily organized press conference. “The President would also like to point out that he acknowledges the Republican points about the millions of Americans affected by tree pollen, and he has long been concerned about their health and happiness.”
The Republican presidential candidates also weighed in on the weather kerfuffle. Ron Paul insisted that the weather would never be nice until Americans were free from the tyranny of the Federal Reserve. Newt Gingrich declared Obama’s claim as, “Frankly, fundamentally ridiculous. Obama’s perception of the weather shows his and the elite media’s adherence to radical Saul Alinksky meteorological tactics.” Reports indicated that Mitt Romney had also greeted the press traveling with him that morning with a comment on the beautiful weather, though by the afternoon he was too was pointing out the 10% chance of rain. Rick Santorum said he would withhold comment on the weather until he had heard the opinion of his friend, God.
