Wikileaks Releases Transcript of Chen Escape Details
The following is a transcript of a conversation hacked by Wikileaks and put on the Internet because they can. It is between US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and blind Chinese dissident Chen Guangchen.
Chen: Mrs. Clinton! Thank you so much for supporting my efforts of freedom. I am calling to give you the joyous news I have escaped from my house arrest!
Clinton: Who is this?
Chen: This is Chen Guangcheng. I’m that blind Chinese dissident you’ve been trying to get released from custody.
Clinton: Who? Jim? I don’t remember helping anybody incarcerated break out of anywhere, other than Bill, that time in Muncie. Where are you now? (Aside: Bob, I think I have a nut-job on the line. Can you get Secret Service to trace this?)
Chen: Mrs. Clinton! You must help me! This is Cheng Guangchen, the symbol of courage against overwhelming oppression you keep talking about in your speeches. I am currently in the American embassy in Beijing.
Clinton: WHAT? OUR EMBASSY? I mean… oh… our embassy. Well, you see, Chen, this may be a little ticklish.
Chen: Ticklish? But I’m not ticklish!
Clinton: No, well, you see, the situation is ticklish. We kind of owe your captors a few bucks and can’t just go around telling them what to do. This is a bigger pickle than anything Bill’s thrust on me. I’m going to have to talk to my advisors to see what we should do.
Chen: Please don’t make me go back! They beat me!
Clinton: Look, buddy, we all have our little problems. Don’t you know this is an election year? Look, I’ll have to call you back.
Chen: Mrs. Clinton!
